HAVANA — Just before noon outside Ernest Hemingway’s Havana estate, a metallic screech cut through the chirping of tropical birds and the sound of a live band entertaining tourists. An American worker pulled open one door of a 12-metre shipping container. A Cuban worker pulled open the other. Out spilled treasure: box after box of…

[Music] Bishop Bullwinkel – Hell to the naw naw
Oh, man, this is a real person, apparently. I have found this year’s summer hit.
The next time someone bothers me to do something I find offensive, this will be my stock answer: “Hell naw, to the naw naw naw!”
[Music] OF RINGS AND SWEDES — VINYL CONNECTION
How to approach Bo Hansson’s Lord of the Rings? Having played it so often over many decades, the chances of this reviewer listening dispassionately are about the same as Gollum opening a secondhand jewellery store. It must be said that not everyone likes the Swedish keyboard player’s album. In its early days, MOJO: The Music Magazine […]
[Music] Silber Records: New Post Punk & Experimental Pop from M is We & Bronze Eye
New releases from our friends at Silber Records:
Hello,
Hope all is going well with you. As mentioned last time the increased feeling of financial stability (if not actual stability) has created a dramatic increase in productivity here at Silber. The new releases from a couple weeks ago (Chvad SB, Yellow6, & Anda Volley) seem to be getting some attention & that makes it feel like the label is thriving instead of declining. The weather is hot & the days are long, but things seem good & promising & the future seems unstoppable.
M is We is back with us for an entry in the 5in5 series. Post punk & proto goth somewhere between Christian Death, The Germs, & Cabaret Voltaire. Good stuff & only 5 minutes to check out.

Bronze Eye & LD Beghtol collaborated for a 5 minute EP of experimental pop music. I’m pretty stoked about this EP because the two of them got together because of LD’s 5in5 last year. Helping artists discover each other & work together has been a goal of Silber from the start, so this is awesome for us.

[Music] Fake Plastic Heads – KNOWWHATIMEAN
Germany’s Fake Plastic Heads have a new, jagged speaker-wrecker of a track for your enjoyment. Pure digital bliss!
[Music] Dither Craf – Impossible Music [1980] electronic / non-music

Dither Craf are a new name for me. This is pure, cold, rather brutish experimental music which reminds me of the stuff I used to collect in the 1980s. I’m amazed that I missed out on his work.
[Music] V/A – Strange Fruits, Catherine Wheel Tribute

The Blog That Celebrates Itself is a label run out of São Paolo, Brazil, who are developing a reputation for great tribute compilations. The object of their affection is Catherine Wheel this time.
[Music] Thy Veils – Sun Sun
Wonderful news for dark ambient fans! Romania’s own Thy Veils have released a new single, pointing them into a different, somewhat tribal and pulse-filled direction. I look forward to hearing more!
[Music] The Monkees – Birth Of An Accidental Hipster
Never did anyone think that The Monkees would actually get back together, but with an album full of amazing pop songs, including this one written by Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher, they have come back with full force. It’s far better than anything the surviving Beatles, Stones or anyone from that era has done in decades.
[Music] Jarda Svoboda – K horám
Many thanks to my friends at Indies Scope, perhaps the best indie label in the Czech Republic. I’m proud to support their roster of bands who continue to impress, like Jarda Svoboda, who was best known as the frontman of the bands Otcovy děti and Traband.
