A Miscellany of Tasteful Music/Art/Film/Lit is a blog-zine dedicated to reviewing old and new artistic material from a non-political point-of-view.

My art and music tastes hover from Baroque to Avant-Garde/Experimental, but I don’t quite fit the mold proscribed in more left-wing-leaning magazines such as The Wire, TNR or the Huffington Post.  There are millions of people who enjoy interesting, tasteful and even radical forms of art who see no need in having the swallow the party line that comes with political views which seem dim at best and morally hopeless at worst.

If you consider yourself as open-minded as you think you are, consider that people of a different political, moral and ethical persuasion might just be into the same music, film, literature and art that you’re into, and might teach you a thing or two about it.

What do I like personally?  For music, Joy Division, King Crimson, Killing Joke, The Clash and King Crimson among thousands of others.  Film directors I love include Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman and Orson Welles.  My favorite authors include Jorge Luis Borges, Ezra Pound, Christopher Hitchens (except his works on religion, which are rather feeble except to ‘true believer’ atheists) and William Shakespeare.  As far as art goes, I am content viewing Caravaggio as I am the works of Aleksandr Rodchenko.  The world is an interesting and beautiful place.  There’s much to see, much to discuss, and much to learn.  That’s the point of the site.  It’s here to turn you on to things I find interesting, and I hope you might as well.

What should you expect to see here? A few articles, media reviews and lots of videos of music, film and art-related things.  Expect, also, to see things from all over the world.  There are interesting artists coming from places like The Balkans, Africa and Central Asia as there are from Los Angeles, New York or Chicago.
