Wolfgang “Fadi” Dorninger is something of a legend in my circle. When I was a teenager, I came across his work thanks to a very active cassette culture which was happening in Los Angeles, and was blown away by his project at the time, Monochrome Bleu.
He is still releasing rather amazing, tranquil ambient work, and it’s good to see a familiar name come up on my radar again. Give his work a good, deep listen on headphones. It’s good music to let your brain swim to.
An unsolicited release came into my email box a few weeks ago from the band Braderin, and I finally have time to check it out. It’s a crunchy piece of ambient music, and EP’s worth of music that reminds me of the 1980s post-Industrial cassette culture. Somewhat occultish, perhaps influenced by sci-fi films.
A really good effort out of Turkey.
2019 is off to a flying start!
Several of my favorite musicians and/or composers are quite actively broadening their catalogs, and our old friend, Abquexa (among his many aliases) has returned to the blog with a disc that could be described as ‘avant-pop’. The tunes fit the normal song structure, but the weirdness in each track makes for very intriguing listening.

Coil rose from the ashes of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV. Though core members Peter Christopherson and John Balance have left this world, they left an incredible body of work to enjoy, and they will influence a new generation of post-Industrial Music artists.

Though late period SPK went into a horrible period of commercial dance music which was, to be frank, an atrocity, they managed to safe a great deal of face with their final works.
Z’ev was one of the kings of the early post-Industrial/experimental music scene. Starting off as a normal drummer in the 1960s, he began experimenting with all sorts of found objects, studying their percussive qualities. In a rather bizarre experiment, here he is covering Wipeout by The Surfaris.
Though Ministry was always seen, rightly or wrongly, as Al Jourgensen’s band, it’s not fair to say that he was the only talent in the group. Bassist Paul Barker used Lead Into Gold as a vehicle for his own creative output. It’s a shame he didn’t do more with it.
Many thanks to Alexander Wolf, who posted this on one of the many fora I visit daily. Though I think calling this music ‘epic neo-folk doom’ is a bit banal under normal circumstances, it might actually work to describe this music rather well.
Gaetir The Mountainkeeper are going to be interesting to follow up on, though, at least according to Google, there’s no further information about the band.
28 years ago today, Laibach foisted this cover of the cheesy Opus hit, “Live is Life,” and most certainly made it their own.
