I normally find tribute albums done hours after the death of someone to be ghastly and in poor taste, but Scanner does an honorable job paying homage to Pierre Henry.

[Music] Redefining Russian Techno

From the Bandcamp article, which can be found here:
Russian techno is stylistically varied—from ultra industrial to sleazy disco, hazy cassette labels to crisp and urbane house. But often there’s a moodiness, an underlying bleakness to the sound that feels like it’s channeling a harsher Soviet past. Certainly, experimentation is rife, and “live”-ness is important—musicians performing live hardware shows seem to be every bit as important as DJs. But most important of all, there’s a freshness, a lack of cynicism, a sheer delight in crazed sounds and textures that can make even the most familiar musical tropes feel like you’re hearing them for the first time.
[Music] Byzantine Time Machine – Adventure In Istanbul
Byzantine Time Machine are a new discovery, thanks to a darling friend in Italy who hipped me to their mix of ethno-dub music a few months ago.
[Music] Martin Hannett’s lost Homage to Delia Derbyshire finally released on vinyl

Another debt of thanks is owed to the good Al Clark, who posted this treasure on another account. Martin Hannett is known as the producer who brought the best out of so many bands from Factory Records. He put together this paean to English musique concrete composer Delia Derbyshire, who did wonders for the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop from the 1960s to about 2000.
[Music] Pierre Henry Has Died
Pierre Henry, legendary pioneer in the field of musique concrète, passed away today. He was 89.
More to come on his passing shortly.
[Music] Oval – SE
Though Markus Popp’s Oval is best known for his glitchy compositions, he’s been branching into rather sublime, Brazilian-inflected pop music as well. Lovely stuff.
His back catalog is 50% for the time being over at Bandcamp as well. Now’s a good time to stock up on his work.
[Music] Mark Van Hoen – Electronic Music 1982-1987
Mark Van Hoen made quite a name for himself recording under the monicker Locust during the 1990s. This recordings in this archival album show how much he developed his sound.
[Music] Introspect Void – Behind the Fallen Monuments of Time
I don’t know if today is Flashback Day, but the last three posts have brought some very, very good memories of the period in my life between 1988-1992, when I was absolutely immersed in Electronic Body Music (as well as the alternative music scene of my youth).
Introspect Void are not a band from the late 1980s, but you get the feeling they sat at the feet of the masters, added a cleaner, more crisply-recorded music, but retaining that dark, foreboding vibe that made Frontline Assembly, Front 242, and bands of this stripe so much fun to listen to.
[Music] Burkina Electric – Mdolé
Burkina Electric are a very interesting Burkinabé avant-pop featuring drummer, percussionist and composer Lukas Ligeti. Burkina Faso must have quite a few hidden treasures worth hunting for.
[Music] Various – Magnetband: Experimenteller Elektronik-Underground DDR 1984-1989 / Sammlung: Elektronische Kassettenmusik Düsseldorf 1982-1989

FREQ Magazine blogs on two very interesting experimental music releases showcasing 80’s German electronic music, one from the East, and one from the West.
