It’s time to wrap up things for the end of the year, and the next couple of posts will help me close up shop for 2018. I want to thank Alberto Matsumura for his friendship and for sending me a loud, electro, proggy, Neu!-ish killer of a space-rock/techno mish-mash EP to enjoy.
Electro
[Music] La Maison Dieu – Earth
Only one track on this release, but it’s a winner! La Maison Dieu are a band out of Istanbul, Turkey who combine elements of EDM, old-school lo-fi electronic music and a touch of cheese in the vein of Giorgio Moroder. I’m digging this!
[Music] glič – Propr Gangst – The Remixes
I wasn’t quite sure what to make of glič, a DJ out of Manchester, England. Within a moment, any concerns were immediately allayed with his really funky groove. His music and the music of the artists he’s remixing covers R&B, electro and delves a bit into dubstep.
glič reaches back to Manchester’s venerable tradition of electronic music, and he updates the hell out of it in these remixes.
[Music] Redefining Russian Techno
From the Bandcamp article, which can be found here:
Russian techno is stylistically varied—from ultra industrial to sleazy disco, hazy cassette labels to crisp and urbane house. But often there’s a moodiness, an underlying bleakness to the sound that feels like it’s channeling a harsher Soviet past. Certainly, experimentation is rife, and “live”-ness is important—musicians performing live hardware shows seem to be every bit as important as DJs. But most important of all, there’s a freshness, a lack of cynicism, a sheer delight in crazed sounds and textures that can make even the most familiar musical tropes feel like you’re hearing them for the first time.
[Music] John Tejada – Parabolas
John Tejada is, by far, one of the most creative techno composers operating today. Certainly among the best in the United States.
[Music] Sara Ayers – This Is What I Wanted
Sara Ayers is an electronic musician from England whose works deserve a heavy reappraisal, considering she’s almost forgotten out of England and maybe Germany.
[Music] vivienxo – w84u
vivienxo is a Finnish musician who does ‘dreampop’. I have no idea what the genre really is, but there’s a lovely, muffled sound to it that reminds me of old 80s dreampop that I’m familiar with, such as bands like Dream Academy. Definitely worth investigating further.
[Music] Wagon Christ – Chicken For Kitty
Precisely what the doctor ordered for such a dark, gloomy day outside. Luke Vibert (Mr. Wagon Christ himself) offers up some dark, jazzy down-tempo music to enjoy.
[Music] Novogradska – Коњаници
Truly one of the best artists working in Macedonia, Novogradska has a decade’s worth of amazing work in electronic music, indie and soundtrack work for the legendary film director Milcho Manchevksi.
[Music] The Diplomatic Core – Monsieur Claude 2012-2015
My friend Christopher (a.k.a. The Diplomatic Core) is a tunesmith par excellence. He’s constantly reworking material, forging some very groovy beats in the process. Follow his work on Soundcloud here.
