At first, the deep-throated vocalizations and dialogue samples are a curiosity, their necessity not immediately apparent. But after the album is played to its bitter end, all is revealed. These nine pieces represent the Nuit Noir (black night), and serve as impressionistic short stories: shock fiction, if you will. Spoken words may set the stage, but on […]

[Music] Jönsson Tõll & Mauno Koivisto – Mulla Ei Oo Aavistustakaan Mitä Tää Kaikki Paska Suomeksi Tarkoittaa
Two identities, one artist. Jönsson Tõll is a composer who is based out of Portugal. This release features some of his own work, plus more under his working monicker, Mauno Koivisto. Of of the most beautifully bleak techno albums I’ve heard in ages.
[Music] Vasilisk – Awakening
Vasilisk were an early noise band out of Japan. This piece comes from around 1990, and was released by the Italian cult experimental label Musica Maxima Magnetica.
[Music] Alexander Kopeikin – Split Second
The Carrera-Linn Cultural Exchange is proud to announce a release by Russian experimental music composer Alexander Kopeikin. Split Second is a tour-de-force of music influenced by early experimental music, granual experimentation and Industrial music in the vein of early Throbbing Gristle and Current 93.
[Music] Sonologyst & Kshatriy – Time Is The Enemy
The ever-amazing catalog of Attenuation Circuit Records out of Germany continues to expand. Their latest, a collaboration between Sonologyst & Kshatriy, is a wonderful blend of ritualistic music and black ambient. Perfect listening with coffee (black, naturally).
[Music] Piarevaracien – Spadčyna / Heritage

First, a debt of thanks to our friends at Heathen Harvest. Yes, we have some differences politically, religiously and socially, but Paddy has done a sterling job in bringing some amazing music to the forefront of the underground music scene. We wish them continued success.
HH recently reviewed a new release by Belarusian folk-metal band Piarevaracien. I had never heard anything from them until today, and though I normally don’t find much interest in the metal work, folk-metal is too intriguing for me to ignore. You find old Belarusian rhythms, including bagpipe music, mixed with a very thoughtful metal compositions.
There’s quite a lot of this sort of music floating around these days, and I’d say most of it is good. This one is particularly so.
[Music] Thy Veils – Sun Sun
Wonderful news for dark ambient fans! Romania’s own Thy Veils have released a new single, pointing them into a different, somewhat tribal and pulse-filled direction. I look forward to hearing more!
[Music] Creation VI – Myth About Flat World
Dmitry Fedoschenko pointed me to this new release on his label, Black Mara Records. It is a slow, deep, echoing ride down a chasm into a digital cave, where the sounds envelop you much in the way the masters like Steve Roach and Robert Rich, especially in his collaborations with Lustmørd, used to do. Black ambient has a wonderful future in Russia.

[Music] Cranioclast – Vanorum Mare
Cranioclast were from Hagen, Germany, and were one of the most interesting of the German cassette label projects I used to collect. They ventured into making a couple of vinyl records and CDs, but then disappeared into the ether. They’re a group crying out for a reissue campaign, definitely.
