Canary Records has never failed in any project they have released. I consider it almost a sacred duty to buy as many of their releases as possible, and this compilation of Fado is no exception. The remastering is well done, making each song crisp, but having a well-worn, broken-in feeling.
Catherine Ribeiro is France’s psychedelic chanteuse. From what I understand, she is still making music. This is from her peak period, and it still sounds stunning.
For my Mari, who has made me appreciate what Brazil has to offer. Madredeus and wonderful company today. I can’t ask for much more than that.
It’s not enough that Take Five by Dave Brubeck is a gorgeous enough song. Add to it the vocal styling of Maria João and her band, and you have a perfect masterpiece to enjoy your martini with.
This was the classic lineup for Madredeus, when Teresa Salgueiro was still singing for them. Both she and the band are still making wonderful music, but this tune shows them at their peak.
