Many thanks to Diana of Standgericht, who sent me some material she’s working on for an upcoming album release. If you have a passion for Electronic Body Music of a more brutal type, this will be worth waiting for.
Music
惘聞 (Wang Wen) – My Crime
Some sublime instrumental post-rock out of China. These guys need a much bigger following.
[Video] Nolan “N. F.” Porter – Keep On Keepin’ On
Nolan (then known as N. F.) Porter was an American Northern Soul singer whose hit, which we’re hearing now, would be the catalyst for Joy Division getting signed to a major label. While the band scrapped their attempt at covering the song, the guitar lick would serve as the foundation of their track, Interzone, as heard below:

[Video] Polar Inertia – Antimatter
Nothing but mad respect for the Queen of tastemakers our of Beirut, Nadine Assaf, who always finds the choicest electronica.
Polar Inertia offer a wonderfully minimalistic beat-oriented experience, something almost cosmic in scope. You can get a bit more about this French troupe here.
[Video] Seiko Oomori – Midnight Seijun Isei Kouyuu
Imagine a hyperactive Strawberry Switchblade doing God-knows-what with Alvin & The Chipmunks, but in a positive way. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Seiko Oomori. She will be huge with just a wee push.
[Video] Ivana Stefanović – The Epistle of Birds (1976)
Less a piece of music and more a gaggle of birds having their caterwauling manipulated expertly by Ivana Stefanović, who composed this piece of sound art inside the studios of Radio Belgrade.
[Video] Thor’s Hammer – Show Me You Like Me
Thor’s Hammer don’t particularly strike one as worthy of their name. However, these guys were about 20 years ahead of really cheesy heavy metal bands who might have better fit the part.
Musically, however, they were incredibly good at producing a fuzzy, garage-y freakbeat.
The Skopje Connection – Branko, Branko, Branko (Live)
Three of the finest musicians Macedonia has to offer combine with Dutch cellist Ernst Reijsinger for an amazing concert I was privileged enough to attend.
The lineup for the evening:
Dzijan Emin – Melodeon
Luca Aquino – Trumpet
Georgi Sareski – Guitar
Ernst Reijseger – Cello
Enrico Blumer deserves a load of credit for making this collaboration happen. He has been a gift to the Skopje music scene.
[Review] Fake Cat Project – Fake Cat Songs
Kirill Makushin (who also records under Kirill M and Crows In The Garden) is no stranger to this blog. He’s a bayan player who works well with experimental composition. In this EP for the Fake Cat Project (his new band), he works with the legendary Russian avant-garde music stalwart Alexei Borisov, and Igor Levshin, who contributes ‘vocals’ (meows, really).
[Video] Chico Buarque – O Meu Amor
Uma das melhores obras de Chico Buarque, dedicado a minha Mari.
