Marty Willson-Piper is the former guitarist of The Church. Though I’m bummed he left the band, he’s still making some rather solid music these days.

I’m lucky enough to be served some amazing dishes by Premek over at Indies Records from Prague. The Czech Republic’s coolest label put out another gem with Maraca, who produce a type of indie rock that should be appealing to a wide audience. Mellow and very tasteful stuff, especially with the fine vocal work turned in by Gabriela Vermelho.

A smooth, swanky tune by Paul Weller’s other band, The Style Council, joined by the voice of Everything But The Girl, Tracey Thorn.

Fuzzy, modern psychedelia. Shoegaze music really was a beautiful thing for a while. The Pale Saints were at the top of their game when this piece came out.
The compilation this track is featured on is definitely worth a purchase.
[Music] Johanna Warren – Nūmūn
Johanna Warren is a folk singer from Portland, Oregon, who caught my ear. There’s a very sweet tone to her voice that I’m not used to hearing from other American folkies. This is my first encounter with her work, and I’d say I’m looking forward to hearing more from her.

Oh, my. Stuart A. Staples and the lads to a damn-near wrist-slittingly depressing (yet perfect) cover of Pavement’s rather sublime tune.

[Music] Adorable – Sunshine Smile
Adorable were an English band made up of band members Pete Fijalkowski (vocals, guitar), Robert Dillam (guitar), Stephen ‘Wil’ Williams (bass) and Kevin Gritton (drums). They produced, to my ears, one of the best shoegaze songs of the early 1990s. A truly gorgeous, shimmery track!
