Though late period SPK went into a horrible period of commercial dance music which was, to be frank, an atrocity, they managed to safe a great deal of face with their final works.

Experimental musicians are a funny lot. They put out strange, sometimes stiff, clinical sound experiments. And then Ryoji Ikeda decides to have a laugh and make a static and blip cover of AC/DC‘s seminal classic. Genius.

Pianist Carla Bley continues to make gorgeous music. We lost Charlie Haden not too long ago. The album, bearing the same name, was named the Best Album in Down Beat Magazine’s Critic’s Poll.

I never quite agreed with Heldon (a.k.a. Richard Pinhas) being labeled as the French Robert Fripp. He’s his own man, and has come up with some rather amazing sounds on his own. Still, it’s quite something to hear Richard perform this paean to Frippertronics.

[Video] Mörder Machine – Lorna Green
Mörder Machine was a side project of Marco Corbelli, who was better know for his project, Atrax Morgue. He was a profoundly brutal noise musician, and this is one of his calmer works.
[Video] Frank Bretschneider – Crisis? What Crisis?
Frank Bretschneider is one of the few composers who can make a glitchy racket actually sound like it makes sense. Beautifully recorded and composed.
[Sample] NichelOdeon – FI(j)ùRU D’ACQUA
Up until today, I knew nothing about NichelOdeon. It seems that the name is a monicker for Italian composer Claudio Milano, who is based in Fragagnano, Italy.
After going through a few tracks (this one being my favorite), I’m looking forward to seeing this project develop!

Perhaps the finest avant-punk band to ever come from Cleveland, Pere Ubu is in fine form with a track from their 2014 release, Carnival of Souls.
