[Music] Ethan Diamond, Bandcamp – XOXO Festival (2014)

If you haven’t heard of Bandcamp, you really need to catch up. Artists and record labels are using this absolutely wonderful platform to sell vinyl, fan merchandise and other objects as well as high-quality digital downloads in a host of formats.

Ethan Diamond, the founder of the company, is seen here speaking about the many uses of Bandcamp. We wish him and the company continued success, though I’m mad that his invention is cleaning out my wallet!

For a sample of his music taste, check it out here.

A real tragedy. Asalt0 Al Parque Zoológico are a shoegazer band out of Buenos Aires, Argentina who bring to mind such acts as My Bloody Valentine and Lush, and are certainly worth a listen.

Unfortunately, I came across them too late, as it seems drummer Gabo Malmus and her boyfriend, Sebastian, were killed yesterday in a tragic plane crash over the Alps.

May they rest in peace, and may APZOO recover.

[Video/Sample] Árstíðir – Heyr Himna Smiður

The best way to describe Árstíðir, at least in this gorgeous tune, is something like what a Varangian choir might have sounded like in 13th-Century Byzantium, singing in the Hagia Sophia.

As it turns out, the tune is from the 13th Century, written by Kolbeinn Tumason. No, Wuppertal isn’t quite Byzantium, especially inside of the train station, but the lads made a mundane place seem almost holy that day.

For another, perhaps clearer version, check out this performance from Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2012. To hear this as an MP3 or FLAC file, just download the ‘name your price’ album via Bandcamp.

The Internet is a treasure trove which never ceases to amaze. Thanks to the enterprising souls over at Analog Africa, a brilliant reissue label from Germany, we get to here these long-forgotten wonders from the country formerly known as Zaïre, now the Democratic Republic of The Congo.
