Israeli experimental pop singer Tal Weiss collaborates with cellist Julia Rovinsky in this delicate tone poem.
Avant-Garde
[Video] Frank Bretschneider – Crisis? What Crisis?
Frank Bretschneider is one of the few composers who can make a glitchy racket actually sound like it makes sense. Beautifully recorded and composed.
[Sample] NichelOdeon – FI(j)ùRU D’ACQUA
Up until today, I knew nothing about NichelOdeon. It seems that the name is a monicker for Italian composer Claudio Milano, who is based in Fragagnano, Italy.
After going through a few tracks (this one being my favorite), I’m looking forward to seeing this project develop!
[Video] Pere Ubu – Visions of the Moon
Perhaps the finest avant-punk band to ever come from Cleveland, Pere Ubu is in fine form with a track from their 2014 release, Carnival of Souls.
[Video] Karlheinz Stockhausen – Klavierstück XIV
Pianist Bernhard Wambach deftly interprets this 1984 composition by Karlheinz Stockhausen.
GRM on Bandcamp!
Holy smokes! The legendary INA-GRM Record Label out of Paris, France, which housed some of the most legendary names in electroacoustic and avant-garde music, has decided to release selected titles as downloads via Bandcamp, and at reasonable prices!
[Sample] Eisuke Oooka – Extensive forest
An absolutely lovely piece of droning here by Eisuke Oooka, a composer out of Japan.
[Video] Jani Christou: Mysterion (1965/1966)
Here is a man who should have been featured far earlier in the blog’s life, but I’m coming around to him today after being reminded of his freaky scores.
Jani Christou was a Greek-Egyptian composer and philosopher, one of the most brilliant minds in composition in the late 1960s. His life was cut short due to a terrible auto accident, which rumor said he had predicted.
[Video] Sofia Gubaidulina – The Seven Last Words, I-III
Sofia Gubaidulina is my favorite female Russian composer (along with Iraida Yusupova and the late Galina Ustvolskaya). She is a practicing Orthodox Christian, and this piece melds Ancient Christianity with the avant-garde.
[Video] Spooky Tooth with Pierre Henry – Prayer
An updated version of this post, as an error by GoDaddy, who hosts this site, ate it. Hopefully, I have no more missing posts.
