Cui Jian is China’s father of rock music. He’s still performing at age 57 to sellout crowds here. He’s quite impressive.
[Music] Jim Perkins & Tom Gaisford – Byrds
It’s not everyday that you see a single of classical music released, but this reinterpretation of the works of 16th and 17th Century English composer William Byrd, ably handled by Jim Perkins & Tom Gaisford, even features a remix by Leah Kardos of Byrd’s Kyrie. Bigo & Twigetti continue to knock it out of the park in terms of quality releases.

[Music] The Teardrop Explodes – Reward
Julian Cope popped into mind earlier today, and it got me thinking about how good his old band The Teardrop Explodes actually were. Reward was their biggest hit, released in 1981. It’s mind-blowing to think that this is nearly 40 years old now.
Bless my cotton socks, I’m in the news
The king sits on his face buttons all askew
All wrapped up the same (same)
All wrapped up the same (same)
They can’t have it
You can’t have it
I can’t have it tooUntil I learn to accept my rewardPrinces stand in queues they stand accused
Death in solitude like Howard Hughes
All wrapped up the same (same)
All wrapped up the same (same)
Silence has it
Arrogance has it
I can have it oohUntil I learn to accept my rewardSuddenly it struck me very clear
Suddenly it struck me very clean
All wrapped up the same
All wrapped up the same
You can’t have it
I can’t have it tooUntil I learn to accept my rewardUntil I learn to accept my rewardUntil I learn to accept my rewardUntil I learn to accept my rewardUntil I learn to accept my
I learn to accept my
I learn to accept my reward!
[Music] Jan Garbarek Group featuring Trilok Gurtu – Jazz & Wine Of Peace 2016 -Teatro Comunale Cormòns, 26 10 2016
Norwegian saxophonist and composer Jan Garbarek never disappoints, but adding Mumbai-born master percussionist Trilok Gurtu makes his sound that much richer.
[Music] Музыкальный блог A Miscellany of Tasteful

[Music] Rosen Zahariev-Roko | Dimitar Bodurov | Dimitar Semov – Mixing Vanity Trio
I have to admit to being thunderstruck by the work of Dimitar Bodurov, a Bulgarian pianist, composer and producer based in Amsterdam. Doing a quick run last evening over at Bandcamp in their jazz improvisation tag, I came across Bodurov’s work, both solo and in this magnificent ECM-feeling trio setup, and it hooked me in from the first blare of the trumpet. Rosen Zahariev-Roko steals the show in this release, playing magnificently, and both he and Bodurov are ably underpinned by the percussion work of Dimitar Semov.
Opto Music is going to be a label to watch for in the future.
[Music] ElPeche – Rosas Bandidas EP
Arthur Carneiro is ElPeche, a Brazilian-born, London-based DJ who managed to absorb the best of Brazilian music and let it flow through the filter of electronica. On this EP single, he collaborates Artéria FM for a series of remixes.
Deep grooves, and pleasant listening courtesy of Tropical Twista Records.
[Music] Napalm Death – Mentally Murdered
This record was my first introduction to grindcore. Napalm Death were brutal and fast, and meticulously precise, and this record caught them at the beginning of the peak of their powers. Truly brutal listening.
[Music] Ben Rath – Black Heart Music
Ben Rath is an experimental musician based out of Manchester, England, who specializes in dark, foreboding minimalist compositions which leave you feel unnerved while working on blog posts at three in the morning. He makes his recordings with the use of keyboards, piano, guitar and some slight effects. Really good listening.
[Music] Various Artists – Black Pearl Records: Bosporus Bridges Vol. 3
Black Pearl deserves high praise for releasing this retrospective series on some of the wildest funk, psychedelic, beat and jazz records to come out of Turkey. The names aren’t famous, but damn it, they should be.
From Black Pearl’s Bandcamp site:
A wide selection of rare Turkish funk, jazz, beat and psychedelic music from the 1970s.
This is the 3rd issue of the groundbreaking Bosporus Bridges compilation series, started in 2005 with Vol. 1 and continued in 2011 with Vol. 2.
Why did it take so long for the release of Vol. 3? Because deep digging, deep selecting and our wish to serve you Turkish pop music of the highest order, simply takes its time. And it is worth doing so. According to the aspiration of the Bosporus Bridges series you will get extraordinary music, opening your mind and remapping your knowledge of Turkish music.
As Turkish pop music is a hybrid of Western and Eastern elements, it’s not just funk, jazz, beat and psychedelic music but each time a specific Turkish approach to a hybrid pop music. This incorporates Turkish language, instruments, melodies etc., all mixed with electric instruments, drums and sound effects of Western pop music.
Exclusively on vinyl we feature 3 tracks, that will be not available digitally of Figen Han with “Pisi Pisi”, Dönüşüm with “Taek-Won-Do” and Burhan Tonguç with “Du-Bi-Ba”.
