Here’s another track from what, to these ears, is the best band in Ireland today. Girl Band sound something like a violent crashing of The Birthday Party, early Nirvana, with touches of This Heat.

[Music] Ruşen Alkar – Qîzê Bê Dê
All thanks and respect to my friend Sarp Keskiner for turning me on to some absolutely lovely Kurdish music from Ruşen Alkar.
[Music] Kara Üzüm Habbesi – Kardeş Türküler
Kardeş Türküler are a project I’d not come across before. They play a fusion of Anatolian, Thracian and Mesopotamian music, according to their bio. It’s a powerful fusion for sure.
[Music] Esfahan Ensemble – Sinay
I can’t find a thing on the band, but the Esfahan Ensemble produce lovely Persian music.
[Music] Svitlana Nianio – Spotkanie
This is a very charmingly weird slice of avant-pop from a Ukrainian singer and songwriter, Svitlana Nianio, whose one album, Китиці (Kytytsi), was released on the Polish indie label Koka Records.
[Music] Guillaume de Machaut – La Messe de Nostre Dame: Kyrie

[Music] Alessandro Cortini – Passatempo
Alessandro Cortini is an Italian composer and keyboardist based in Los Angeles. He’s an occasional member of Nine Inch Nails, and makes quite a good company man working with Trent Reznor in a style reminiscent of the 1980s Belgian Hard Beat scene, but on his own, he veers off into Kosmische Musik territory, reminding one of artists like Klaus Schulze in this track.
[Film] Actor John Hurt dead at 77

John Hurt, whose devastating performances in movies like The Elephant Man, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Alien and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone showcased a craftsmanship rare in Hollywood today, died at the age of 77 due to complications caused by pancreatic cancer.
The Daily Mail presents the story here.
