Rishad Shafi was a drummer and percussionist from Turkmenistan who headed the best prog band out of Central Asia in the 1980s, Gunesh.

[Music] Orkiestra Ósmego Dnia – Dlaczego wschodni wiatr niesie mróz
I’m not sure if Orkiestra Ósmego Dnia (Orchestra of the Eighth Day) would qualify as a world music band, an experimental project, or an improv group, but leader Jan A. P. Kaczmarek has gone on to making some rather good movie soundtracks.
[Music] Companyia Elèctrica Dharma – Moixeranga Del Diable
Companyia Elèctrica Dharma were a Spanish band based in Barcelona who fused prog, jazz, blues and symphonic rock together rather wonderfully.
[Music] 幾何学模様/Kikagaku Moyo – Kikagaku Moyo
Thanks to a visit with my friend Joe, whose music taste is impeccable for things like drone, old prog and Killing Joke, I figured I’d spend my evening looking for good, psych-y, droney things to listen to. Kikagaku Moyo caught my attention by sounding like a slightly more updated version of Acid Mothers Temple. A good, stony listen.
[Music] Sepsis – A Liturgy Of Madness
I love being a music sponge, but even with my rather vast knowledge of strange music, some things slip through the cracks. The Russian band Sepsis is a case in point. Apparently, the band was from Leningrad (now St Petersburg), and created a sound which would be familiar to fans of Rock-In-Opposition and avant-progressive music.
[Music] Susheela Raman – Yoo Doo Right
I’ve never quite heard Can covered in such an interesting way. Susheela Raman steals the show.
[Music] Grazia – Soyle Beni
A wild slab of Turkish psychedelia by a 16-year-old Grazia!
[Music] Shocking Blue – Send Me A Postcard
Beat’s hottest singer, Mariska Veres, tearing it up for Shocking Blue at a club in 1968.
[Music] Greek Psychedelia — The New Elastic Infinite
Why haven’t I done a show on Greece before now? It is senseless! Greek psychedelia is the super most wow I’m blown away! Turn on and tune in to Global Psychedelia this Saturday from 2-4PM central (WEFT 90.1FM and streaming at weft.org) for these two hours of inner-cosmic freak outs from Greece. Acid Baby Jesus […]
[Music] WAHNSINN — VINYL CONNECTION
Tarot by Walter Wegmüller is one of those wonderful, dotty follies of vinyl packaging that transcend normal expectations with bravura wackiness. Released on the Cosmic Couriers label ((Die Kosmischen Kuriere, for those who do Deutsch) in 1973, it hovers near the very peak of my LP Grail list. I’ve never held a copy, never […]
