Fuzzy, modern psychedelia. Shoegaze music really was a beautiful thing for a while. The Pale Saints were at the top of their game when this piece came out.
The compilation this track is featured on is definitely worth a purchase.

It’s almost insulting to call Hawkwind the Grateful Dead of the United Kingdom. There’s simply no comparison. The playing was heavier, the lyrics wittier, and the solo projects also bore much fruit.
No knock on the Dead, who I love in a live setting. But I find Hawkwind to be a much better band.

Gwenno are a band from Wales who just popped onto my radar. File under neo-Krautrock-influenced bliss.

Catherine Ribeiro is France’s psychedelic chanteuse. From what I understand, she is still making music. This is from her peak period, and it still sounds stunning.

Fine, heavy, expansive Krautrock from one of the better German bands of the era, 2066 (Twenty Sixty Six) and Then.
[Music] Villagers of Ioannina City – Krasi
This is beautifully weird, and I have my dear brother, Yasen Kazandjiev, to thank for it.
This sounds like Greek folk music gone somewhere between post-punk and psychedelic music. As if Joy Division discovered the pleasures of lamb and ouzo. I’m looking forward to watching Villagers of Ioannina City grow and develop this sound!

Turkish rock is amazing! From Moğollar to Barış Manço and Erkin Koray, there are a wealth of treasures to be found from Anatolia during the 1960s and 70s.

[Video] Thor’s Hammer – Show Me You Like Me
Thor’s Hammer don’t particularly strike one as worthy of their name. However, these guys were about 20 years ahead of really cheesy heavy metal bands who might have better fit the part.
Musically, however, they were incredibly good at producing a fuzzy, garage-y freakbeat.
