Dutch psychedelic band Q65 were a band I discovered reading magazines like Record Collector, who hyped them up as a band with a monstrous reputation. They were, and to my ears, are, among the best bands of the late 1960s.
Garage Rock
[Music] Love (Japan) – Time Gives Life
Folk-psych from 1977. The band Love is not the legendary Los Angeles band fronted by Arthur Lee, but a Japanese group who churned out at least one magnificent album before disappearing into the aether.
[Music] Hawkwind – Hassan i Sabbah
It’s almost insulting to call Hawkwind the Grateful Dead of the United Kingdom. There’s simply no comparison. The playing was heavier, the lyrics wittier, and the solo projects also bore much fruit.
No knock on the Dead, who I love in a live setting. But I find Hawkwind to be a much better band.
[Music] Radio Birdman – T. V. Eye
As good as The Stooges‘ version was, this cover by Australia’s Radio Birdman, legends themselves, blows the original out of the water. Rob Younger just had the voice and the howl to make this into a vicious slab of vinyl.
[Music] Gwenno – Chwyldro
Gwenno are a band from Wales who just popped onto my radar. File under neo-Krautrock-influenced bliss.
[Music] Rodriguez – Sugar Man
Sixto Rodriguez’s story is a pretty incredible one. A Mexican-American folk singer from Detroit who didn’t sell too many albums, but did manage to have a good tour of Australia, and then fell into obscurity, or so he thought. He ended up outselling Elvis Presley in South Africa, and fans from there hunted him down. The movie Searching For Sugar Man documents his rise, fall, and rise back to popularity.
[Music] Twenty Sixty Six and Then – Winter
Fine, heavy, expansive Krautrock from one of the better German bands of the era, 2066 (Twenty Sixty Six) and Then.
[Music] 26 Best Anatolian Rock & Turkish Psychedelic Rock Songs
Turkish rock is amazing! From Moğollar to Barış Manço and Erkin Koray, there are a wealth of treasures to be found from Anatolia during the 1960s and 70s.
ATDAA does a fine job compiling some of the best here. If you have any further listening suggestions, feel free to get a Disqus account and post them in the comments section.
[Video] Thor’s Hammer – Show Me You Like Me
Thor’s Hammer don’t particularly strike one as worthy of their name. However, these guys were about 20 years ahead of really cheesy heavy metal bands who might have better fit the part.
Musically, however, they were incredibly good at producing a fuzzy, garage-y freakbeat.
[Music Radio] Radio Lux

Leave it to my dear brother in Naples, Paolo, to find one of the best Internet radio programs in the world, especially for those who love swanky music. Bravo!
