Padot na Vizantija (The Fall of the Byzantium in English) were one of the leading lights in the Yugoslavian post-punk scene. Singer Goran Trajkoski went on to participate in two legendary projects: Anastasia and Mizar (for a short tenure).

[Music] Chris Cornell (RIP) – Billie Jean
Chris Cornell took his life by suicide on the 17th of this month. He was 53 years old, and left a wife and a couple of children. He was also a fellow member of the Eastern (Greek) Orthodox Church. We offer prayers for a good son who fought a good fight in this life. May he finally have rest in his soul.
I can’t ever say I was that big of a fan of Soundgarden, but his solo work, as well as the Audioslave albums, really showcased the best voice of his generation. Rest in Peace.
[Music] Joy Division – Leaders of Men
Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis died on this day 37 years ago. Time flies.
[Music] Olan Mill – Orient
A dream-touched record, Orient‘s music continues to linger long after the Eastern-flavored tones have faded. An unexpected confusion of static opens the record, but a flowing drone soon straightens everything out, ebbing and flowing with its mystical practices and ancient atmospheres. Orient both trembles and echoes. The dreamy notes are always falling, like a loose scattering of cherry blossom dispersed by April winds. […]
[Music] Die Haut – Doggin’ (Feat. Lydia Lunch)
Die Haut were a German post-punk band who were active during the 1980s and 90s. They collaborated with such luminaries as Nick Cave and Blixa Bargeld, but go full-on swamp blues here with Lydia Lunch.
[Music] Orchestre Rouge – Seconds Grate
I couldn’t find anything on Orchestre Rouge in English, but the French band were among the best post-punk groups France ever produced.
[Music] Orchestra Baobab – Mouhamadou Bamba
Senegalese band Orchestra Baobab were my first major introduction to Afrobeat and the wealth of music the African continent had during the 60s, 70s and 80s. They are again performing after a long absence, and are due to release new music shortly.
The music itself is a real clash of rhumba, Son and glued together with mournful vocals. A hypnotic piece.
[Music] Sonologyst – Ancient Death Cults And Beliefs
Sonologyst is the main project of Unexplained Sounds impresario Raffaele Pezzella, whose work should be seen in the same vein of dark ambient as labels like Sweden’s Cold Meat Industry.
[Music] Steven Severin – 23 Wounds Of Julius Caesar
Seeing that today is the Ides of March, the day Julius Caesar was turned into a pin cushion by a creepy cadre of senators, it’s appropriate to celebrate the day by highlighting a recent release by former Siouxsie and The Banshees bassist Steven Severin.
[Music] Flicker Rate – Reframe EP
Can you imagine this music, dexterously played post-rock with hits at groups as disparate as Helmet and the Durutti Column, was made by a teenager? If this is Spencer Bassett’s first work, then Flicker Rate is going to be someone definitely worth following.
