How to approach Bo Hansson’s Lord of the Rings? Having played it so often over many decades, the chances of this reviewer listening dispassionately are about the same as Gollum opening a secondhand jewellery store. It must be said that not everyone likes the Swedish keyboard player’s album. In its early days, MOJO: The Music Magazine […]
Symphonic Prog
[Music] Folque – Fanteguten
Folque were a Norwegian folk-prog band who were active in the early 1970s. According to some comments I’ve read recently, though they didn’t make much of a dent in the American market, they were quite popular in Brazil, of all places.
[Music] LIGHT COORPORATION 64:38 Radio Full Liv(f)e /Fifth Album Coming Soon /RéR Recommended London
LIGHT CORPORATION out of Poland are quickly becoming one of my favorite progressive rock bands. They meld together influences like King Crimson and Univers Zero, while adding a touch of something new. That they are being released on Chris Cutler’s legendary record label, Recommended, says a lot about the quality of their music.
Visit the band’s website here for more information.
[Music] Rajaz – I Talk To The Wind
The Giles, Giles & Fripp/King Crimson classic is covered amiably by Rajaz, and progressive rock band out of Brazil.
[Music] Rick Wakeman – Merlin The Magician
On top of having an amazing career playing keyboards and piano for Yes, Rick Wakeman also made a few records of magnificent quality.
[Music] Delirium (Mexico) – Delirium
There’s little more confusing than having three really good bands share the same name (the other being the Bill Leeb electronic music project, and a progressive rock band from Italy).
Still, this Mexican Delerium has a lot going for it, and will be liked by those who enjoy groups like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Italian symphonic progressive rock.

[Music] Nekropolis – Musik Aus Dem Schattenreich (1979)
Musik Aus Dem Schattenreich is an avant-progressive masterpiece by German electronic music composer Peter Fröhmader’s band Nekropolis.
[Music] Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Fanfare For The Common Man
What a loss. Here is Emerson, Lake & Palmer doing Aaron Copland proud.
[Music] In Spe – Mare Vitrum
In Spe were one of the great progressive rock bands to come out of the former Soviet Republic of Estonia. This work features the talents of Erkki-Sven Tüür, who would eventually become a contemporary classical composer of note.
[Music] Syd Barrett: the genius who almost was – a classic profile by Nick Kent

I’ll be the first to admit that I loathed Pink Floyd’s work after The Dark Side Of The Moon, and up until their rather charming final album, The Endless River. Syd Barrett, to many die-hards, was the heart and soul of the band. Nick Kent profiles the man over at The Guardian.
