[Music] Un Festin Sagital – La Procesion de la Noche Solar
Un Festin Sagital were one of the finest ritualistic ambient bands to ever come out of Chile. In fact, I can’t think of another, save the related band Thanatoloop.
[Music] Various Artists – 12 Dubs of Xmas
Dub and reggae are wonderfully adaptable. This compilation by NICE UP! Records is half-way through Advent, and there are six more freebies to come.
[Music] Merzbow – Silent Night
Even noise freaks enjoy Christmas, as Merzbow deftly shows.
[Music] The Robert Shaw Chorale – We Three Kings of Orient Are
We’re getting into the Christmas spirit with the Robert Shaw Chorale and this excellent rendition of the Episcopalian classic.
[Music] Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath – Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath
If you ever wanted to know what Black Sabbath would sound like as a Latino-influenced metal band, now’s your chance. Brownout do a great job re-interpreting the masters.
[Music] The Alleys – The November Curse
My friend Nicholas Kulikowsky has a project I thought would be fun to share here. He’s got a unique vocal style and the music he makes reminds me of artists like Mark Lanegan and Grant Hart, Hüsker Dü’s drummer.
[Music] Kashmere Stage Band – Take Five (The Dave Brubeck Quartet Cover)
This is easily the funkiest take on a jazz standard I’ve ever heard. Apparently, the Kashmere Stage Band were famous for making funky sounds which were the equivalent of the JB’s and the Bar-Kays during their peak in the 1960s. Really amazing stuff.
[Music] The Male Choir of the China People’s Armed Police – Suliko
The Male Choir of the China People’s Armed Police are a revelation to me. They have the same power as the old Red Army Choir, and the same ability to make some lovely music choices. This piece, Suliko, is a Georgian folk tune.
[Music] Les Choeurs de l’Armée Rouge MVD – Maroussia (Marusya)
Les Choeurs de l’Armée Rouge MVD (The Red Choir Orchestra and Ballet) make a joyful racket with one of Russia’s most endearing folk songs, Marusya.
