Judging by the tags listed on this rather charming EP, I would have thought that this music is meant for the dance floor. It is, actually. It’s just the sort of thing you would want to listen to after a night of pounding noise and stomping around in your best shoes. With this release, BlankFor.ms lets you lilt gently into a relaxed phase, ending your evening on an exalted note. There is a cracked, crunchy beauty to this album. I look forward to exploring the band further.

[Music] Abdel Karim Ensemble – Joyas de la Música Culta Árabe
As I spent Chinese New Year’s Eve in the company of a friend and watched in amazement as to how empty my part of town was, I decided to call it a night and spent a bit of time enjoying some music. This was the first result of a healthy list of music I indulged in. This was my first exposure to the Abdel Karim Ensemble. I’m looking forward to finding more albums, as they play great traditional music from Syria, Egypt, Morocco and pre-Reconquista Spain. Magnificent listening.
[Music] Who – Magic Bus — PowerPop… An Eclectic Collection of Pop Culture
A band called The Pudding heard this song from a Pete Townshend demo that was circulated. The Pudding recorded the first version (see video below), which came and went without much fanfare in 1967…they could have picked a little better name. Their version was a little too smooth for me. I’ve always liked this song […]

[Music] Various Artists – Unseen Our Voice: Both Sides Suffer Heavy Losses, But We Faced An Unavoidable Conclusion
During a cursory scan of Bandcamp’s post-rock tag, I came across this rather solid compilation which features tracks by such impressive artists as Adolf Plays The Jazz, Hior Chronik and We.own.the.sky.
[Music] Sshe Retina Stimulants – Play Cronaca Nera
This release by Sshe Retina Stimulants is one of the most claustrophobic works I’ve heard in some time. This is noise, but done with a way that makes the experience almost magical. I had the feeling of falling down an endless rabbit hole a la Alice in Wonderland. It’s a harrowing release, and one of the most worthy noise releases I’ve heard in some time.
[Music] Daiqing Tana – Ongmanibamai
Daiqing Tana is the lead singer of the band HAYA (哈雅樂團 in pinyin), a New Age band who meld Chinese and Mongolian music into an East Asian fusion rock. Extremely pleasant listening.
[Music] Present – Triskaidekaphobie [expanded / remastered]
Present is the project of former Univers Zéro guitarist Roger Trigaux, who is joined by UZ drummer Daniel Denis. This is less progressive rock and more furious chamber rock. There is a brutal intensity to this disc that quite possibly surpasses Roger’s former band. This is as punchy as it gets. A rough treasure.
[Music] Mahavishnu Orchestra – Live on BBC TV – Paris Theatre (1972)
Thanks to ProJazz.net for posting this amazing set from the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
