I normally find tribute albums done hours after the death of someone to be ghastly and in poor taste, but Scanner does an honorable job paying homage to Pierre Henry.

[Music] Martin Hannett’s lost Homage to Delia Derbyshire finally released on vinyl
Another debt of thanks is owed to the good Al Clark, who posted this treasure on another account. Martin Hannett is known as the producer who brought the best out of so many bands from Factory Records. He put together this paean to English musique concrete composer Delia Derbyshire, who did wonders for the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop from the 1960s to about 2000.

Today’s pleasant surprise is Blankenberge, a dreampop/shoegaze band out of Russia. Not quite My Bloody Valentine at their peak, but pretty decent nonetheless.
[Music] Various Artists – In The Void Presents: Nick Drake Tribute
In The Void is an organization based in Istanbul, Turkey, which aims to introduce and support local voices and music formations, with different platforms and events. This is one of their first projects; a collection of covers of Nick Drake’s music done by local bands.
The artists are of exceptionally good quality (I will point you particularly to the The Underdogz, who handle Drake’s Black Dog</em> with aplomb.
I hope In The Void continue to promote local talent, and that we’re treated to more compilations of both original music and covers soon.
[Music] Mark Van Hoen – Electronic Music 1982-1987
Mark Van Hoen made quite a name for himself recording under the monicker Locust during the 1990s. This recordings in this archival album show how much he developed his sound.
[Music] Zwidy – Zwidy
Zwidy are a post-punk/post-rock/alternative music band out of Warsaw, Poland. Sharp playing, surprisingly easy on the ears, and yet they maintain their power. Not bad at all for indie rock.
[Music] A.M Ferrari Fradejas – Hostile Land
A.M Ferrari Fradejas graces us with a new release, though, to by negligence, I managed to miss when it first came out. Dark, Crimsonesque vibe with gentle guitar work and A.M’s magnificent vocals ties the package together wonderfully.
[Music] Introspect Void – Behind the Fallen Monuments of Time
I don’t know if today is Flashback Day, but the last three posts have brought some very, very good memories of the period in my life between 1988-1992, when I was absolutely immersed in Electronic Body Music (as well as the alternative music scene of my youth).
Introspect Void are not a band from the late 1980s, but you get the feeling they sat at the feet of the masters, added a cleaner, more crisply-recorded music, but retaining that dark, foreboding vibe that made Frontline Assembly, Front 242, and bands of this stripe so much fun to listen to.
[Music] Silver Rose – Silver Rose
I know of quite a few artists in Brazil who are doing stupendous work in the genre of Shoegaze music, but this release by Silver Rose, a Mexican band, equals or surpasses these, having a lot in common with their fellow British and American co-practicioners of this sonic art.
Those of you who like Dream Pop will find a lot to enjoy with this release as well, as, for those of us over the age of 40, we’ll remember swaying to Hope Sandoval’s lush vocals. For a moment, this album transported me back to those days. A keeper.
[Music] Bargou 08 – Targ
There seems to be an explosion of bands from the Tuareg regions and North Africa in general these days. Bargou 08 hail from the Tunisian side of the Bargou Valley region which sits on the border with Algeria. They are a modernized version of local traditional music, from what I understand. Very impressive.
