Ultima Thule #1068 by Ultima Thule Ambient Music on Mixcloud

Sublime working music, courtesy of Bruno Sanfilippo, who is featured today at the Ultima Thule podcast, available on Mixcloud.

Many thanks to Miguel Santos, who will be showcasing Bruno in London later this year.

[Video] Mickey Hart / Diga Rhythm Band – Razooli (Studio Version)

Mickey Hart made his fame as a drummer for the Grateful Dead, whom I enjoyed greatly (at least in their live settings). He was also a big fan of Indian music, and really did a lot with his Diga Rhythm Band project to promote it. In this track, it sounds like exotica, innovative Latin percussion, and a touch of India deep inside.

He is joined in this track by Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain.

[Video] Valgeir Sigurðsson – Between Monuments/Guardian at the Door

Good heavens, this is an absolutely schizophrenic piece of music. It ranges from a sumptuous minimalist to an edgy post-rock before sliding into something more appropriate in an electroacoustic work.

Valgeir Sigurðsson hails from Iceland. Why is this not surprising? Yet another composer/musician from there to watch out for. To hear the whole of Architecture of Loss, the album this track is on, go to Valgeir’s Bandcamp site.

[Video] The Durutti Column – Domo Arigato

The first live album I was ever blown away by.

When I was attending college in my teen years, I had a good friend, Fish, who had impeccable musical taste. He introduced me to the work of The Durutti Column, and if memory serves me right, this was the record which first turned me on to their oeuvre.

Nearly 30 years later, it still sounds magnificent. Hunt down this album, and hope that Factory will reissue this as a Blu-Ray one day.
