In honor of Peter Frohmader’s birthday, here’s a depressingly heavy slab of avant-prog by his rather amazing project, Nekropolis.

[Music] Ciwan Haco – Sira Sibê
Many thanks to my friend Oded for sharing this Kurdish pop gem from legendary singer Ciwan Haco, who was the first Kurdish musician I ever heard.
[Music] Hülya Süer – Şeker Oğlan (Kozmonotosman Rework)
Hülya Süer was one of Turkey’s biggest pop names throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Her tune gets reworked by Kozmonotosman. Click on his name to find other great reworks.
[Music] Fatoumata Diawara – Fatou (Full Album)
World Circuit Records, a longtime leader in World Music, produces another magnificent album. This one is by a Malian singer born in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) called Fatoumata Diawara. She’s worked with such luminaries as Paul McCartney, Damon Albarn and Beninese legends Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou.
[Music] Univers Zero – The Funeral Plain
Univers Zero provides a gloomy soundtrack to darken your day.
[Music] Die Haut – Doggin’ (Feat. Lydia Lunch)
Die Haut were a German post-punk band who were active during the 1980s and 90s. They collaborated with such luminaries as Nick Cave and Blixa Bargeld, but go full-on swamp blues here with Lydia Lunch.
[Music] Omar Metioui & Mohamed Mehdi Temsamani – Ritual Sufi-Andalusi: Al-Shustari (1212-1269)
Omar Metioui is a Moroccan classical musician who was born in 1962. In this album, Metioui collaborates with Mohamed Mehdi Temsamani in their interpretation influenced by the Andalusian poet Al-Shustari.
[Music] Orchestre Rouge – Seconds Grate
I couldn’t find anything on Orchestre Rouge in English, but the French band were among the best post-punk groups France ever produced.
[Music] Orchestra Baobab – Mouhamadou Bamba
Senegalese band Orchestra Baobab were my first major introduction to Afrobeat and the wealth of music the African continent had during the 60s, 70s and 80s. They are again performing after a long absence, and are due to release new music shortly.
The music itself is a real clash of rhumba, Son and glued together with mournful vocals. A hypnotic piece.
[Music] Robert Fripp – Easter Sunday
A perfectly sublime work by King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp to end the Easter festivities.
