Clarinetist Louis Sclavis was one of my first exposures to this kind of music. It was through a magazine that included a free CD that I first heard his music, and I’ve remained mesmerized ever since.

[Music] David Bowie & Philip Glass – Heroes (Aphex Twin Remix)
David Bowie, Brian Eno, Philip Glass, all remixed by Aphex Twin. As collaborative efforts go, it doesn’t get much better than this.
[Music] Buika – No habrá nadie en el mundo
[Music] Nina Simone – The Ballad of Hollis Brown (Live)
Thanks to ace typographer Nick Sherman for posting this classic from Nina Simone!
[Music] The Upsetters – Blackboard Jungle Dub
Of the the true masterpieces of the dub genre, here are Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry & The Upsetters doing mighty damage to your bass amp.
[Music] Carey Bell – Too Late
One of the finest players of blues harmonica, Carey Bell was not only a solo artist, but a sideman to such players as Earl Hooker, Robert Nighthawk, Lowell Fulson, Eddie Taylor, Louisiana Red, Jimmy Dawkins as well as his own son, guitarist Lurrie Bell, according to Wikipedia.
[Music] Nino Rota – Il Casanova Di Federico Fellini Soundtrack (1976)
Nino Rota is legendary in terms of composing soundtrack music, but I have to thank my friend Miguel Douglas on Facebook for turning me on to this gem.
[Music] Else Marie Pade – Etude I (1962)
Though she wasn’t quite as famous as David Bowie, Lemmy or Glenn Frey, Else Marie Pade’s loss does damage to the electroacoustic community, as she had collaborated with some of the field’s giants. RIP.
[Music] Jorge Ben – Força Bruta – 1970 (Full Album Completo)
There are so many incredible Brazilian artists, but for some reason Jorge Ben (Jor) is among my favorites. It’s his voice and the gentle samba rhythm that sets him a notch above many others.
[Music] Melodiya Ensemble – Vashi Lyubimye Pesni Igraet
Funky Jazz from the house band of the Soviet state record label, the Melodiya Ensemble. There’s almost no info on the band, but there is an article on Soviet Funk, so enjoy.
