It’s amazing to think that this label has been around for 20 years, and I missed a good fifteen of those due to ignorance. May they have another happy 20.
I’m not sure about the other bands in Tuscon, Arizona, but local lads The Myrrors are swimming in a sea of sludge and LSD. This is slow, plodding, and very, very effecting stoner rock.
Prague-based band Olaf Olafsonn and the Big Bad Trip offer a music straddling the borders of black metal and psychedelic rock. The riffs are monstrous, and there are glimmering moments of 70s hard rock in this release.
Orthodox are a Spanish metal band who seem to be very comfortable straddling the line between doom metal and free-jazz. One piece, 27 minutes, of brutal skronk.
Amazing noisy sludge from Louisiana, Thou seem to be keeping to a trend of quasi-religious metal band names. They’re impressive at any rate.
Cold Dark Matter Records taps into the one thing I respect about this new Doom Metal scene – they exhibit raw power. Every track on this compilation is a bruiser. I think I’ll have a lot of fun exploring this label!
