Australia’s King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard cross all sorts of genres so heavily that they are nearly impossible to categorize. The band move around easily in alternative music, psychedelic rock, prog, surf (not as weird as it sounds, to be honest) and garage rock.

This album is a freebie, and, as it turns out, one of their best works. Give it a listen and be converted.

We lost another legend today.

Percussionist Stefan Weisser, known to his fans and colleagues as Z’ev, passed on today at the age of 66. He left a body of work so important in experimental music that I expect tributes to pour out for days (including this one from our pals in Lithuania, Radikaliai!).

This free download is a release Z’ev did in Iceland in 2004. It gives a nice taste of what he could do with percussion.

aufabwegen is bringing british experimental ambient group O YUKI CONJUGATE for their first ever proper tour to europe in december.

so far concerts are planned in germany, the netherlands and switzerland.

the tour will happen together with german artist KONRAD KRAFT.

Gregg Allman, singer of the legendary Allman Brothers Band, passed away due to complications from liver cancer. Too much rock and roll can, indeed, kill you, but he leaves an exceptional body of work behind, especially this smoking track from a Fillmore East performance in 1970.

Norway has a very healthy jazz scene, and it seems to be supported by the state (please correct me if I’m wrong). Siv Øyunn Kjenstad, a drummer and vocalist of this trio bearing her name, has no releases (with her as band leader) that I know of, but judging by this performance, I’m looking forward to hearing what they can do in a studio.
