After years of having to let this project lie dormant, I’m proud to announce the resurrection of my record label, the Carrera-Linn Cultural Exchange (CLCX). Our first release is from the Russian-based Armenian-American violinist Gregory Ayriyan, who composed all but three of the tracks on this disc. The other composers include Sayat Nova, Komitas, and Niccolò Paganini, so he interprets the cream of the crop.
Avant-Garde
[Music] Throbbing Gristle – Dead On Arrival
Throbbing Gristle were the band responsible for introducing the concept of Industrial Music to the world, for better or for worse. This track comes from the 1978 release of D.o.A: The Third and Final Report of Throbbing Gristle.
[Music] Vassilis Tsabropoulos, Anja Lechner & U.T. Gandhi – Melos
Vassilis Tsabropoulos and Anja Lechner represent the cream of the crop for ECM Records. U.T. Gandhi is a new name for me, and his percussion adds a fullness to this recording.
[Music] Werkbund – Haithabu
Many thanks to my good friend Miodrag Cheza Stojanovic, who posts some of the most amazing experimental videos. Werkbund (alias of Uli Rehberg) were a German experimental/post-Industrial project who made some stunning cassettes and CDs in the 90s.
[Music] Ken Hyder’s Talisker – Close the Window and Keep It Down (1977)
Ken Hyder is an incredible Scottish percussionist who has worked with some of the most interesting musicians in Great Britain, and as far away as Siberia. This is early material, thankfully reissued and available at Forced Exposure.
[Music] Uri Caine & Masada String Trio – Jazz in Marciac 2008
A stunning bit of live footage here. Though the stars of the video are John Zorn’s Masada String Trio, pianist Uri Caine utterly dominates the first half of the show with gorgeous improvisation.
The lineup for the night:
Uri Caine – Piano
Mark Feldman – Violin
Erik Friedlander – Cello
Greg Cohen – Double bass
John Zorn – Direction
[Music] Ya disponible la Pre-release del primer cd recopilatorio de La Montaña Rusa Radio Jazz!

Wonderful news from our friends in Spain! After all these years of having a wonderful radio program, La Montaña Rusa Radio Jazz has decided to release their first-ever CD. They will be a huge asset to the incredible talent Spain has to offer.
[Music] ECM on Vinyl

ECM Records announced that a number of incredible titles will be available for purchase on vinyl. The heavens rejoice!
[Music] Giovanni Guidi Trio – City of Broken Dreams
I trust ECM Records immensely, as their musicians never let me down. Giovanni Guidi continues that streak wonderfully.
[Music] Uri Caine/Ksawery Wójciński/Robert Rasz – Plays Wladyslaw Szpilman
A warm thanks to MultiKulti for posting this. Here are their notes (follow them, please!):
Editor’s info:
Uri Caine plays Wladyslaw Szpilman — a special project of Tzadik Poznan Festival 2013
Marek Edelman once said, “Szpilman is the symbol of all those, who survived, since there must have been dozens of unlikely, wondrous circumstances to survive.”The music of this composer and pianist — a student of the Fryderyk Chopin Conservatory in Warsaw under the tutelage of Jozef Smidowicz and Aleksander Michalowski and later the Academy of Arts in Berlin, where he studied under Arthur Schnabel and Leonid Kreutzer (piano) as well as composition under Franz Schreker — is know around the entire world thanks in large part due to Roman Polanski’s movie, The Pianist.
This cultural and artistic project is devoted to the figure and oeuvre of a prominent composer, the creator of classical music and many unforgettable songs that have become permanently ingrained into the cultural history of the 20th century.Uri Caine performed on Tzadik Poznan Festival with Polish musicians Ksawery Wójciński on the double bass and Robert Rasz on the percussion. The musicians together presented authorial interpretations of Szpilman’s compositions.
Uri Caine, one of the great innovators of contemporary music, will pay tribute in this way to the Polish composer and pianist.
