Something tranquil, bordering on New Age and ethereal music, from Spain’s Bosques De Mi Mente.

[Music] Janko Nilović – The Sun is Rising
Montenegrin pianist and multi-instrumentalist Janko Nilović produced several albums that album bin divers cherish. Here’s a sample from one of his best LPs, Pop Shopin, a collaboration with Belgian pianist Willy Albimoor.

14:20 The Law and The Fist
25:18 Nighttime, Daytime Requiem
38:59 Cherry
42:57 Crazy Girl
48:50 Moja Ballada

[Music] Milcho Leviev – Dave Holland – Cavatina
Bulgarian pianist Milcho Leviev came to my attention about 20 years ago via the Los Angeles record label MA Recordings, a high-end label. I was floored by the quality of his playing, and wondered why he didn’t receive more attention in the US than he has. Bassist Dave Holland needs little introduction, as he has a flood of crucial records on labels like ECM Records.
[Music] Vassilis Tsabropoulos, Anja Lechner & U.T. Gandhi – Melos
Vassilis Tsabropoulos and Anja Lechner represent the cream of the crop for ECM Records. U.T. Gandhi is a new name for me, and his percussion adds a fullness to this recording.
[Music] Ryuichi Sakamoto – A Flower Is Not A Flower
Ryuichi Sakamoto has spent a career morphing from one genre to another, and essentially leading the pack.
[Music] Uri Caine & Masada String Trio – Jazz in Marciac 2008
A stunning bit of live footage here. Though the stars of the video are John Zorn’s Masada String Trio, pianist Uri Caine utterly dominates the first half of the show with gorgeous improvisation.
The lineup for the night:
Uri Caine – Piano
Mark Feldman – Violin
Erik Friedlander – Cello
Greg Cohen – Double bass
John Zorn – Direction
