Wonderful news for dark ambient fans! Romania’s own Thy Veils have released a new single, pointing them into a different, somewhat tribal and pulse-filled direction. I look forward to hearing more!

[Music] Creation VI – Myth About Flat World
Dmitry Fedoschenko pointed me to this new release on his label, Black Mara Records. It is a slow, deep, echoing ride down a chasm into a digital cave, where the sounds envelop you much in the way the masters like Steve Roach and Robert Rich, especially in his collaborations with Lustmørd, used to do. Black ambient has a wonderful future in Russia.

[Music] Gianni Venturi / Lucien Moreau – Moloch
One of the more intriguing releases to pass my desktop in some time. Ferrara, Italy’s Gianni Venturi and Lucien Moreau describe their work here:
Art. Music. Poetry. MOLOCH is the conjunction point between two artists and their visions. A collaborative work about the concepts of capitalism, humankind, ancient cultures, freedom, with an eastern flavor and a hint of madness. But also a due tribute to great icons, such as Allen Ginsberg and William Blake. Electronic orchestral music meets poetry and words with a strong cinematic result.
[Music] Nekropolis – Musik Aus Dem Schattenreich (1979)
Musik Aus Dem Schattenreich is an avant-progressive masterpiece by German electronic music composer Peter Fröhmader’s band Nekropolis.
[Music] Obscurus Orbis – Kost Ar C’hoat
I tend to find ‘pagan’ metal to be as corny as it is heathen. Still, some of these bands have amazing talent, and manage to blend old and new rather well. Obscurus Orbis, a band from Jūrmala, Latvia, fit the bill very well.
[Music] New Order – Dreams Never End (Peel Session)
Though Bernie Sumner has handled most of the vocal work over the years for New Order, there’s something pleasantly raw about this Peel Session version sung by Peter Hook.
Next to Ceremony, this is my favorite track by the band.
[Music] Novogradska – Коњаници
Truly one of the best artists working in Macedonia, Novogradska has a decade’s worth of amazing work in electronic music, indie and soundtrack work for the legendary film director Milcho Manchevksi.
[Music] Lonsai Maïkov – Paraklesis
It’s appropriate to celebrate the feast day of St Spyridon, the patron saint of my local church, with some Orthodox apocalyptic music, courtesy of Lonsai Maïkov out of France.
[Music] Romowe Rikoito – El Desdichado
Russian/Prussian neofolk act Romowe Rikoito interpret a famous work by French poet Gérard de Nerval.
[Music] Daniel Denis – Coeur De Boeuf
Daniel Denis of Univers Zero and Art Zoyd has quite an impressive resume as a solo artist. Here is a composition of his which translates into “Beef Heart” (one can guess who he is offering tribute to).
