Local Los Angeles label Cold Busted release a properly chilled album by Berlin-based musician Boris Blenn. Blenn updates the easy listening genre and spices it up a bit with Nu Jazz, making a pleasant space-age cocktail disc worth relaxing to.

[Music] Speedometer – We Gave up Too Soon (feat. Vanessa Jamie)
Speedometer are a London-based quartet who give good groove in funk and soul music. They collaborate on a single track with singer Vanessa Jamie for a pleasantly soulful number.
[Music] Hot 8 Brass Band – Love Will Tear Us Apart
Yes, that Love Will Tear Us Apart!
The Hot 8 Brass Band came to my attention with their cover of Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing arranged for a brass ensemble. The band has soul and have no trouble giving life to older songs, but would they be able to give such life to one of the darkest post-punk ‘love’ songs ever made? The results are pretty astounding.
Below is the official video.
[Music] Sarolta Zalatnay – Hadd Mondjam El
How on Earth did I manage to miss Sarolta Zalatnay? She’s the Hungarian Janis Joplin, only funkier to my ears. She had the sound and the look to be an international star, but never quite pulled it off, unfortunately.
[Music] Erlon Chaves – Procura-se Uma Virgem OST
Procura-se Uma Virgem turned out to be a very pleasant slab of easy/cheesy/sleazy listening from soundtrack composer Erlon Chaves, who should have been working in Europe, where is mellow style would have been perfect for directors like Jess Franco and Mario Bava.
[Music] Jaze Baqti – Evidence Of Time Travel
There seems to be little information from the prolific French act Jaze Baqti, but they glide effortlessly between genres like Acid Jazz, Funk and Hip-Hop.
There are so many good releases from the act that it was hard to pinpoint which would be a good album to start with, so I chose the last download I purchased. It’s a fine introduction to the band.
[Music] Nu Guinea – Nuova Napoli
Nu Guinea are a couple of lads from a city which has given me a lot of pleasure and a fair amount of both headaches and heartaches, Naples. Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina will be releasing their latest album, an homage of sorts to their hometown, on April 7th.
The one track they have offered as a sample of what’s to come is a very funky affair reminiscent of the work of Tony Allen. You hear disco, funk and Afrobeat rolled into a rather amazing package.

[Music] Bandcamp Daily: The Best Albums of 2017
Here are this year’s (disappointing, as usual) Bandcamp toppers of 2017. No Santiago Fradejas. No A.M. Ferrari-Fradejas. Nor Jeff Gburek. Nor Marco Lucchi. Nor Noël Akchoté. Nor so many other deserving artists who don’t offer up a plate of decent, non-offensive pseudo-soul, hip-hop or tacky dance music. Ah, well.
