I’m hoping my colleagues can provide information on these two musicians, who apparently hail from Kosovo.

[Video] Mickey Hart / Diga Rhythm Band – Razooli (Studio Version)
Mickey Hart made his fame as a drummer for the Grateful Dead, whom I enjoyed greatly (at least in their live settings). He was also a big fan of Indian music, and really did a lot with his Diga Rhythm Band project to promote it. In this track, it sounds like exotica, innovative Latin percussion, and a touch of India deep inside.
He is joined in this track by Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain.
[Video] Le Ninfe della Tammorra – L’aria de lu mare
Naples is a city utterly steeped in music. I had the chance to visit briefly a few times, and each visit brought me to a deeper appreciation of the culture (if not all of its residents). Classical music, jazz, ethno, horribly embarrassing pop music – you can find it all there.
Leave it to my dear friend, Rosario Maffucci, who along with Ian Smith, do wonders in discovering new talent. It seems that Le Ninfe della Tammorra are from Naples, and bring tarantella into the modern age with a blend of appropriate instruments and what sounds like great engineering in this punchy tune.
I’m looking forward to seeing more talent pop up in Naples during my next visit!
[Video] Olcay Bayır & Nizar Rohana – Serê Çiya & Lay Lay
Leave it to Miguel Santos of LIFEM to introduce the world to one of the most amazing acts I’ve heard in some time.
Olcay Bayır is a Kurdish singer who hails from Turkey. Nizar Rohana plays the oud, and comes from Palestine. They make a formidable duo.
[Video] Николай Ооржак / Nikolay Oorzhak – Throat Singing
Nikolay Oorzhak hails from the Russian Republic of Tuva, land of so many incredible musicians. He gives a demonstration of Khöömei, or throat singing, in a shamanic context.

[Video] Cuncordu e Tenore de Orosei – Voch’e Notte (with Paolo Fresu)
Cuncordu e Tenore de Orosei are a vocal group out of Corsica, a land famous for its gorgeous tradition of polyphonic singing. They’re joined here by trumpeter Paolo Fresu, another son of Sardinia for a new release on Buda Musique which should be out very soon.
[Video] Magdalith – La Naissance
Except finding that Magdalith was from Toulouse, France, that she was a stunningly beautiful Jewish woman who converted to Roman Catholicism and that she sang in Hebrew as well as her native French (with inflections which remind me of Diamanda Galás), there is scant information available about this artist. Any info would be highly appreciated, and she seems to be due a reissuing of her albums.
[Sample] H.Giray Sönmez – Pandur Song (Caucasus Tushki/Ingush Folk)
H. Giray Sönmez is an Anatolian Turkish musician who interprets music from the Caucasus.
[Video] Lida Goulesco – Ou Kamina
Another treasure after a bout of stumbling around in YouTube. Lida Goulesco was a Russian gypsy who made her fame in Paris. This is a gorgeous piece of music!
