Terrible news from The WIRE. Susumu Yokota, ambient DJ and composer extraordinaire, passed away from complications in March of this year, but the family only recently made a public announcement of his passing.

Ólafur Arnalds produces the sort of gorgeous music Iceland seems to be noted for. He comes from an electronic/techno background, but his understanding of composition shows in his delicate compositions.
The Cinematic Orchestra hail from London, and their sound matches their name splendidly. Rare is the band who can work comfortably in both electronica and something akin to soundtrack music. Some try, but they don’t quite pull it off as elegantly as these lads do.
Many thanks to Diana of Standgericht, who sent me some material she’s working on for an upcoming album release. If you have a passion for Electronic Body Music of a more brutal type, this will be worth waiting for.
Nothing but mad respect for the Queen of tastemakers our of Beirut, Nadine Assaf, who always finds the choicest electronica.
Polar Inertia offer a wonderfully minimalistic beat-oriented experience, something almost cosmic in scope. You can get a bit more about this French troupe here.

SPK had an incredible beginning as one of the brutal first wave of Industrial Music, then dissolved into a dance mess with a couple of utterly forgettable albums. Their swansong, however, is about as sublime as Dead Can Dance was at their best. Zamia Lehmanni: Songs of Byzantine Flowers would be a bridgeway for Graeme Revell to go into soundtrack music, which he is still doing to this day.
I wish to thank my friend Prsemyl, who is my contact for Indies Records in the Czech Republic, for introducing me to this band.
Mydy Rabycad are an indie band based out of Prague who remind me of some of the earlier ‘Madchester’ acts like the Happy Mondays, mixed with a style that would remind me of modern swing. Funky isn’t a word one would normally associate with Czech music, but this release changes my opinion.

Frank Bretschneider is one of the few composers who can make a glitchy racket actually sound like it makes sense. Beautifully recorded and composed.
