U Know Me Records has produced a magnificent compilation concentrating on drum sounds. The artists range in genre from post-punk to soul and modern hip-hop, but done in a style that makes them barely recognizable to each category. A refreshing introduction to that which is good in Poland.

[Music] Pipi Caca – Les Miettes Dans le Lit
I’m not normally a fan of bands who feel the need to use bodily functions to name a band, but Pipi Caca deliver a steaming pile of good music, mixing alternative music, chanson, R&B, trap and a touch of funk here and there. Another great release by La Souterraine Records.
[Music] Al Margolis – NNN 1
Al Margolis, not under his nom de guerre of If, Bwana, gives us one 13-minute track of squeaks and noises. Pretty mellow for an experimental work!

[Music] Wadada Leo Smith – Spiritual Dimensions
A proper two-album set by Wadada Leo Smith, this double disc comes complete with two different, yet somehow well-meshed bands. To see what I mean, take a look at each lineup:
Disc One:
Wadada Leo Smith – trumpet
Vijay Iyer – piano, synthesizer
John Lindberg – bass
Pheeroan AkLaff – drums
Don Moye – drums
Disc Two:
Wadada Leo Smith – trumpet
Nels Cline – guitar
Michael Gregory – guitar
Brandon Ross – guitar
Lamar Smith – guitar
Okkyung Lee – cello
John Lindberg – double bass
Skuli Sverrisson – electric bass
Pheeroan AkLaff – drums
These lineups are the cream of the crop of the improvisational music scene. The music is as enjoyably quirky and free as you would expect from a collaboration as grand as this.
