The Bulgarian Voices Angelite are the continuation of the Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir, made famous in the west as Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares, who became popular through a release on 4AD Records and a collaboration with British singer Kate Bush. Here they are singing one of the most beautiful hymns in the Eastern Orthodox canon.

[Music] Red Sparowes – Alone and Unaware, the Landscape Was Transformed in Front of Our Eyes
Sure, Red Sparowes have some of the most ridiculously long titles in post-rock. Even with this, they produce a loud, but rather beautiful sound
[Music] Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso – Il Giardino Del Mago
Another great blow to the world of progressive rock. Guitarist Rodolfo Maltese (link in Italian), a giant in Italian music from the 1970s, died this week. Here he is in an early incarnation of Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, the band whose sound he helped to forge.
[Music] Lindisfarne – Fog on the Tyne
Lindisfarne were the ‘gateway-drug’ for me to get into progressive folk. It turns out that guitarist Simon Cowe passed away this week, according to Angel Romero at World Music Central. This track is in his memory.
[Music] Pink Floyd – The Piper At The Gates of Dawn (Mono)
It’s quite an experience to hear Pink Floyd’s brilliant first album in a mono mix. The remastering job is incredible, even though this video doesn’t do full justice to just how clear the CDs themselves actually sound.
[Music] Bettye Lavette – Let Me Down Easy
Killer soul from Bettye Lavette, who is a new name to me.
[Music] Miles Davis Quintet 1954 – But Not For Me (Take 2)
Prime-era early Miles Davis, from 1954. If you notice that the sound of this session is amazing, you can thank the flawless ears of engineer Rudy Van Gelder, who recorded this session.
[Music] Faran Ensemble – Dune
The Faran Ensemble are a rather spectacular World Music group out of Israel, taking elements of the music of their neighbors. They are a band to watch out for in the coming years.
[Music] Usnija Redžepova – Kazuj krčmo džerimo
The Macedonian Gypsy singer Usnija Redžepova passed away today at the age of 69. I cannot say if she is related to her fellow Gypsy countrywoman, Esma, but when Usnija was young, she looked like Monica Belluci fronting a Roma band. RIP.
