Herbert von KARAJAN
The prototypical German composer, despite coming from a Greek-Slovenian heritage. Pompous, rude, and very, very effective. It was his apparent connection to the Third Reich that held his career in check a bit, but he overcame this handicap by conducting in a showman-like fashion, captivating audiences all over the world.

Sergei KURYOKHIN
The musician who defined the Russian jazz and improv scene during the 1980s. Thanks to Leo Feigin of the legendary Leo Records, Sergei’s work was played to a good-sized American audience, where he got to perform with some fine musicians as well as lead bands such as his Popular Mechanics project. Sadly, he died at age 42, leaving a huge void in his field.
