More a proper experimental music band than pure Krautrock in my humble estimation, they were far ahead of the competition (except for counting Kraftwerk and Amon Duul II). The classical backgrounds of members such as Holger Czukay, the improvisational freakouts of Michel Karoli and Irmin Schmidt, and the demented vocals of both Damo Suzuki and Malcolm Mooney make this group one of the most influential underground bands to ever come out of Germany. A longtime favorite they’ve proved to be, and although Michel Karoli has recently passed on, I still get great pleasure out of hearing Holger Czukay’s solo work. Worth looking into for adventurous music buyers.
