Sad news to report. Larry “Rhino” Reinhardt, founder of Iron Butterfly and Captain Beyond, two of the coolest bands the late sixties and early seventies respectively, passed away Monday due to complications from a respiratory infections. Reinhardt was 63.

Billy Cox of the Herald Tribune wrote an obituary on the late guitarist, which can be read here.

Another amazing radio program, this one covering psychedelic music.   Thank Gerald Van Waes for the amazing job he does collecting and broadcasting some rather amazing music.  His website does a stunning job of documenting his finds.

Knowing another language has its advantages, especially when it involves discovering great new music! Actually, this article, written in Spanish by César Inca Mendoza Loyola for the blog Autopoietican, features the Mexican progressive rock band Humus, one of the more interesting groups to come out of Mexico’s independent music scene in quite a while.

For those of you who don’t read Spanish, consider either using Google Chrome as your browser or translating the article this way.

We don’t run into too many Brazilian prog rock bands, especially those who work in a realm more akin to jazz-rock or elements of Pink Floyd. Dedalus is worth a listen.

khodchenko

Ukraine is a country rich in music, like most places in Eastern Europe. Alexander Khodchenko is a new name to me, and I have to say I like what I’m hearing! A combination of psychedelic music, progressive rock (more from the 1960s than any other time period), and influences of bands like Love, The Creation and Donovan. Worth exploring. Check out Khodchenko’s Myspace page here.
