Aynsley Dunbar was one of the finest drummers who worked with luminaries like Frank Zappa, David Bowie and Eric Burdon. Here’s one of his own works, and he was quite incredible on his own.

It’s rare for anyone to ever feature a progressive rock band from the former Soviet Union. It’s even rarer to be able to promote one from the country of Turkmenistan. Rishad Shafi was an amazing percussionist, and has apparently continued making music under the Gunesh Ensemble name.

Truly one of the most glorious indie songs I’ve heard in years, I was going through heaps of links today and came across this gem from Immanu El. The band hails from Sweden, and will appeal to those who like Radiohead, post-rock, ethereal/shoegazer music, as well as progressive rock.

If you’re into prog rock, this program is perfect for you.  They play a lot of strange, trippy music, including long slabs of ambient music that crosses over wonderfully.  A real pleasurable listen!

I don’t get much of an opportunity to follow what is happening in the world of progressive rock, so I have to rely on interesting blogs like this one to see what’s going on in that corner of the Universe. Looks rather interesting, actually!
