For those of you who are old enough to have heard the eerie organ riff at the beginning of Procol Harum’s classic hit, “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” the organist who played that snazzy tune has been awarded the right to be recognized as co-writer of the song. It doesn’t mean much money, but it does mean Matthew Fisher will be recognized at long last for his contribution.

A Norwegian singer and violinist of Belarusian descent pulled off the victory at this year’s Eurovision Contest.  It’s usually laced with dreadful competitors singing twee songs, but this year’s winner, Alexander Rybak, actually has a bit of talent.  Next year’s Eurovision will be held in Oslo thanks to the Rybak win.

What a wonderfully weird combo these two make! The legendary Led Zeppelin front man and the bluegrass legend make for an odd pair, but it netted them five Grammys for their album, “Raising Sand.”
